Sputnik V: First batch of Russia COVID-19 vaccine to be released in 2 weeks; mass production starts

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko on Wednesday said the first batch of the Russian vaccine against COVID-19 is expected to be released within two weeks. The minister said that vaccination against coronavirus will be voluntary for everybody, including healthcare workers. Russia on Tuesday became become the first country to grant regulatory approval to a coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine has been named “Sputnik V” in homage to the world’s first satellite launched by the Soviet Union.
